The university continues to provide research opportunities through concerted efforts that include partnering with strategic institutions locally and internationally that share common vision and mission with Pwani University. These partnerships cover areas of common interests such as undertaking joint research, staff and students exchange, undertaking joint seminars/workshops to share research findings, support for training and research infrastructure.

Some of the ongoing research projects that are being carried out by Pwani University staff with collaborating institutions includes: Mradi wa Kuimarisha Kilimo-Biashara Kwale (MKUKI-Kwale)-(Australian Government), Innovative Tuberculosis Diagnosis-Leveraging Novel Methods and Digitization (German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) Grant), Application of Digital Technologies in the Enhancement of Learning Experience for Girls with Disabilities in Kilifi County - (CODE Grant), Sustainable Valorisation Of Agro-Industrial Residues Through Integration of Food, Bio-Products and Bio-Energy Production-Agroval - (Danish International Development Agency –DANIDA Grant), Initiative to Develop African Research leaders (IDEAL 2.0) – (African Science Foundation –ASF Grant), Characterization of Kenyan Marine Fisheries Genetic Resources for Improved Fisheries Sustainability and Food Security (WIOMSA Multi-Disciplinary Research Grant), Strengthening Agri-Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement Training in East, West and North Africa (AgriENGAGE-Erusmus+ Grant), Developing Sustainable Cashew Production for Improved Food Security, Better Nutrition and Income in Kenya (Kenya National Research Fund (NRF) Grant), Developing Pwani University Bioscience Research Centre (PUBReC)-( Kenya National Research Fund (NRF) Grant). Pwani University continues to engage the community with various activities including Food and Agriculture Organization’s FAO Farmer Field Schools (FFS) approach. For example recently, Pwani University trained farmers on improved poultry management techniques to help deal with the problem of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in the region thought a Fleming Fund of the UK in collaboration with FAO and other regional partners.


The University has signed MoUs with various institutions to enhance collaborative linkages on undertaking joint research, staff/student exchanges, organization of joint seminars/workshop, and placement of PU students for attachment/internship, development of a Centre of Excellence for Workforce in Health for the African Region, Patent and co-authorship, among many areas of common interest: This year Pwani University has signed MoUs with the following institutions:
